Media Development
Slick gadgets and cool software. Or, IBM Selectric and overhead
transparencies. Wherever you fall on the technology scale,
it is likely that you are thinking about technology in your
teaching, particularly in your online teaching. But, what
technologies are available? And, more importantly, how should
the technology be used? There are numerous options for enhancing
your online course with multimedia.
What is multimedia? It's the text, graphics, animations,
audio, and video that represents your course content, integrated
and presented in a way that will help students to better understand
the course material. These different media formats can be
created by various technology tools that can be used effectively
in an online course. Conversely, all are also elements of
technology that can be misused or overused in an online course.
Technology is as rapidly changing as the weather and trying
to keep up can be quite a challenge, especially when there
is no free time in your schedule. That’s where we come
in. We are here to help you decide what, or even if, multimedia
should be integrated into your online courses and to what
extent. Obviously the fact that your course is online already
utilizes a common layer of technology, that of the internet.
What alternatives are there to lecture notes? How do you decide
what type of media to use? Who will do the development? How
long does it take?

Resources
One of the goals in developing a successful online course,
is creating a learning environment that is appealing and engaging
for the student, while raising their level of understanding
and retention. Here we will provide resources for you to consider
as you plan, develop, and enhance your online courses.
