TUTORING AND TESTING (ACADEMIC CENTER)

Writing Center

The Academic Center provides free writing assistance and writing resources to University of Houston-Victoria students, staff, and faculty in Victoria, Sugar Land, and Cinco Ranch. Face-to face or online, the Center staff review class papers for students. The Academic Center also reviews resumes and cover letters for alumni.

During sessions with the tutors, individuals may discuss a paper or document in progress. Trained tutors review these documents, discuss techniques for analyzing and revising the writing, and assist writers to devise solutions to writing problems. Tutors also provide a similar service online. UHV studentsmay make an appointment for face-to face tutoring or email documents as attachments through WCOnline available at http://uhv.mywconline.com/. We will review the document and return the draft with our comments and suggestions.

Subject-Area Assistance

The Center offers free subject-area tutoring, depending on faculty request and student use, in the following areas: biology, computer science, history/government, mathematics, public speaking, statistics, and Spanish. During sessions with tutors, individuals may discuss concerns related to courses that are in progress. Please visit the Center’s website at http://www.uhv.edu/ac for information about which subjects are offered each semester along with the hours services are available.

Supplemental Instruction

Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a series of weekly review sessions for students taking historically difficult courses (courses that are known to be tough for students across the U.S.). SI is a program offered through the Academic Center in collaboration with UHV faculty members.

SI is available within select courses. Your advisor may encourage you to take classes that include SI.
