Any call received by the university switchboard or any other department and identified as an emergency message for a student will be transferred directly to the Student Life and Services Office in Victoria, or the front desk at UH Sugar Land and UHS Cinco Ranch.


Students are notified of emergency messages that involve death, illness, injury or accident, or a threat to a student’s livelihood or property. The Director of Student Life and Services or his/her designee will determine if the situation qualifies as an emergency.

Transmitting Emergency Messages

All student emergency messages received by the Student Life and Services Office (SLSO) are handled as follows:

The message, name and telephone number of the person calling is taken;

SLSO staff will check on the location of the student and then deliver the message if possible;

SLSO staff will telephone the caller if the message cannot be delivered or the student cannot be located.
