Dear UHV Student,
Welcome to the University of Houston-Victoria, home of the Jaguars, and part of the University of Houston System. Students are the heart of every university, indeed, our very reason for existence, and we are pleased that you are joining the UHV family. UHV is home to outstanding faculty, students and staff, all playing a vital role in creating the dynamic learning environment our students have come to value.
You are attending UHV at one of the most exciting times in our history. We are expanding and adding degree programs; enhancing our academic programs, with additions such as the American Book Review; beginning athletics, as competitors in the NAIA; and, increasing research across disciplines.
Your decision to complete a bachelor’s or master’s degree indicates your dedication to a better future for yourself, your family and your community. As you move through your university journey, I encourage you to take advantage of the many occasions for growth that university life offers, both in and out of the classroom. Attend lectures by visiting speakers, enroll in an international study class, take a leadership role in a student organization, attend athletic events, and participate in the community service opportunities that come your way. These will enrich your university experience by expanding your vision as you learn more about yourself, others and the world in which we participate as global citizens.
UHV is structured to meet the needs of busy students through multiple delivery methods. We offer courses on campus, online, at various teaching sites in the region, and in collaboration with other UH System universities at two off-campus teaching centers in Fort Bend County. We hope you will use as many of these options as you need to complete your degree.
We are here to assist students in receiving an excellent education, so please let us know if we can help you in any way.
Sincerely,
Tim Hudson, Ph.D.
President
Welcome to the University of Houston-Victoria (UHV). You have made a good choice in deciding to transfer to UHV to continue your academic and personal development. Thank you for joining the UHV learning community.
Our role in Student and Academic Services is to help you expand your learning environment. You can become actively involved in your UHV learning community by joining one of the many student organizations, seeking student employment at UHV, or just volunteering to help in the many events and activities supported and sponsored by Student and Academic Services. This type of involvement strengthens your individual skills and contributes to the rich learning environment students, faculty, and staff appreciate and enjoy at UHV.
As a UHV student, you can also help build the kind of learning community we all want by letting us know what we are doing well and where we can improve. You can do that by completing the various student surveys distributed throughout the academic year and taking time to provide us with feedback either via the online student suggestion box or via email or phone. Your voice at UHV is important!
To help ensure your success at UHV, familiarize yourself with the UHV Student Handbook and become a proactive partner in your educational endeavors. I want to personally welcome you to the UHV learning community. Let us know how we can enhance your experience as a UHV student.
Sincerely,
Chari Norgard
Senior Director, Student and Academic Services
