Graduate Admissions

ASR Graduate StudentGraduate education at UHV is designed to build upon the foundations provided in the baccalaureate program. Programs at the graduate level provide students with opportunities to develop advanced knowledge and skills in their chosen fields. Through their graduate programs, students are expected to demonstrate and increasingly develop independent and critical thinking and to progressively increase their ability to integrate theory, practice, and research in scholarly and professional pursuits.

  1. A completed application for graduate admission.
  2. An official transcript from EACH college attended (mailed directly from each institution to UH-Victoria).
  3. Some graduate programs have designated specific terms for entry (such as the Master of Arts in Psychology program which begins in Fall term only), essay / letter of recommendation requirements, and deadlines for program admission.  Refer to the Academic School web page for specific information regarding entry to the graduate program you choose.
  4. Appropriate exam scores must be mailed directly from the Educational Testing Service to UH-Victoria.  The GRE aptitude [verbal and quantitative sections only] is required for most majors.  Some exceptions are:
    • Business students may substitute GMAT
    • Applicants for Master’s programs in the School of Education, Health Professions, and Human Development (Adult & Higher Education, Counselor Education, Curriculum & Instruction, Educational Leadership & Supervision, and Special Education) may submit results from either the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or the Miller Analogies Test (MAT).
    • Master of Science in Nursing students must submit the HSRT.

Note: Applicants holding a master's degree from an accredited institution which is equivalent to a U.S. master's degree may be exempt from graduate exam score requirements.  Submit an official transcript with masters degree confirmation from the institution which awarded the degree (mailed directly from that institution to UH-Victoria) to the Office of Admissions.  A determination will be made during the admission process.

Temporary Graduate

To be eligible for admission under the temporary graduate classification in the graduate career, a student must have at least a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution but not be admitted to a graduate program at UHV.  Students seeking graduate admission into the Master of Arts in Psychology and the Master of Science in Nursing may not apply for temporary graduate admission.  The School of Business limits temporary graduate admission to 1 semester of study consisting of up to 9 semester hours.
