SAFETY, HEALTH, AND RISK MANAGEMENT
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
2008-2009
Safety and Health Goal:
Provide a safe and healthy work and learning environment for university employees,
students, and visitors by being responsive to employees and students and by
complying with all applicable safety and health laws, rules, regulations and standards.
Safety and Health Objectives:

Conduct quarterly Safety & Risk Management Advisory Committee meetings
with a representative cross section of department employees and management.
Distribute minutes to all faculty, staff, and students;

Offer a minimum of four (4) annual safety, health or risk related training classes addressing employee safety and health needs;

Conduct an emergency evacuation or fire drill in at least one university owned or managed facility annually;
Risk Management Goal:
Continue development of the university Risk Management program while maintaining compliance with
University of Houston System (UHS) policies, University of Houston-Victoria policies, and State
Office of Risk Management (SORM) directives and guidelines.
Risk Management Objectives:

Conduct an annual life safety inspection of university owned and managed facilities;

Implement the SORM Risk Evaluation and Planning System (REPS) survey
recommendation utilizing Additional Duty Safety Officers (ADSO) to assist with
life safety inspections of university owned and managed facilities;

Implement the State Auditor’s Office (SAO) initiative to complete an annual
comprehensive review and update of the campus Business Continuity Plan (BCP)
incorporating the National Incident Management System (NIMS) components
and principles into existing emergency plans.
