SAFETY, HEALTH, AND RISK MANAGEMENT
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
2005-2006
Safety and Health Goal:
Promote safety and
health programs to provide a safe and healthy work and learning
environment for university employees, students, and visitors. Comply
with all applicable safety and health laws, rules, regulations and
standards.
Safety and Health Objectives:
- Conduct quarterly Safety & Risk Management
Advisory Committee meetings.
- Provide a training program to address
university core risks and employee safety and health needs.
- Schedule an emergency evacuation or fire drill
in at least one university owned campus building annually.
- Review the Campus Safety Manual and update
information as necessary.
- Implement an Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Program
and IAQ Management Plan. Educate and train employees in the
prevention, recognition, and resolution of IAQ concerns.
Risk Management Goal:
Promote the continuing development of university
Risk Management programs while maintaining compliance with the State
Office of Risk Management (SORM) mission and philosophy.
Risk Management Objectives:
- Conduct quarterly Life Safety and Health
inspections at university system owned campuses and leased
facilities.
- Review and update the university Business
Contingency Plan.
- Develop a draft of an Emergency Manual with
procedures and guidelines
to be
followed during specific types of emergencies.
- Implement a best practice property loss
management system to prevent or mitigate property losses utilizing
the SORM’s Online Property and Casualty
Claims Reporting System as a documentation tool.
- Implement a SORM Risk Management Program
Review recommendation requiring university employees who operate
state-owned vehicles on university business to complete a
state-approved defensive driving course to increase driver safety
awareness and reduce employee injuries and university liability.
- The SORM Risk
Evaluation and Planning System (REPS) is a data collection and
analysis tool intended to assist state agencies in identifying
exposures to loss in various operational areas. The “Risk Evaluation
Survey” portion is intended to lead client agencies through a series
of questions intended to identify exposures that could result in
financial or operational losses. The Safety & Risk Manager has the
responsibility to accurately respond and complete the survey.
