Legislation of Interest Which Have a High Probability of Passing

SB1260 by Shapleigh:  This legislation, to extend the performance review authority of the State Comptroller to include review of general academic institutions.

SB 1472 by Ogden:  This proposal, on the general property deposit paid by a student of higher education, leaving the property deposit amount at $10, but making the collection of the fee permissive rather than mandatory.

SB1230 by Ellis - Transferring responsibility for oversight of state agency operating plans and strategic plans for information resources management from the Department of Information Resources to the Legislative Budget Board.

House Passes Tuition Revenue Bond Bill, HB 658 by Junell - $3 Million to UHV

"Deregulation" Bill Sent to Governor
HB 1545 by Uher:  This bill, to provide flexibility in numerous operational matters at the institutions such as 1) institutions to use the best value purchasing method for acquiring goods and services; 2) governing boards to purchase liability and property insurance using any funds; 3) institutions to charge students a fee for using a credit card for payment of tuition and other charges.

HB3699 by Ritter, providing for the allocation of HEAF funds to allow a System's Board of Regents the decision making authority on HEAF allocations to each university within the System.

HB568 by Gallego, adds one additional hour per month to vacation accruals and ups the maximum hours that can be carried forward from one fiscal year to the next.

Mon. - Fri. 8:00 a.m. -5:00 p.m. Closed Memorial Day

May 29 - June 28 

Mon. - Fri. 8:00 a.m. -10:00 p.m.
Sat. 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Sun. 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.


Budget Office

Darlene Pullin has accepted the position of the Budget Director.  Darlene is a UHV BBA and MBA graduate and has worked for the Department of Transportation for 35 years.  She will be on board May 22nd.  Please welcome her to UHV.


Safety

UHV has earned Texas State Risk Management Gold Safety Award for Fiscal Year 2000. The award is based upon an agency improving its injury frequency rate at least 50% or more below the average of the past five years.
