News
from Purchasing
Purchasing has been very busy
with fiscal year end orders and the implementation of the new
PeopleSoft Program. Janie and Lisa still have their heads a
little above water and beginning to see the light at the end of the
tunnel on the FY end purchases. Now, all they need to do is
conquer PeopleSoft and train Lydia Huber - who will be replacing
Lisa Edwards September 1st. Needless to say, they regret
Lisa giving up on us and will miss her VERY much.
PeopleSoft purchasing is moving
right along. Janie and Lisa have been entering requisitions and processing
purchase orders in the system and am feeling more confident as they learn and experience more on this program each day. As
of September 1st they were fully on the PeopleSoft system and there
are changes in the present procedures. There is a new
Purchase Requisition form on the UHV website under
Finance/Administration and Finance Forms Listing/Purchasing
Forms/Purchase Requisition. There will be training classes for
the use of this new requisition form and on how to obtain the cost
center information required.

Distance
Education Course Waivers May be Discontinued
The Provost's Counsel has recommended that a fixed course fee of
$140 per course be charged for distance ed courses and that waivers
be eliminated. This proposal will be submitted to the Chancellor and
if approved, could be effective for the upcoming Spring 2002
semester. As currently recommended, there would be no maximum on
distance ed fees and the fee would apply to students taking
face-to-face distance ed courses as well. We will know more in the
weeks ahead.
Facilities
Facility Services is developing
specifications for the contracting of the services of a professional
air quality control testing firm. The firm will be asked to conduct
random testing of various areas within University West to report on
the quality of air and if any corrective action is indicated, to
make recommendations. UHV received over $600,000 in Tuition Revenue
Bond funds this past legislative session for remodeling within
University West including replacing our aging air conditioning
system, expanding central receiving, adding entry vestibules at
each of the four entrances, and upgrading lighting to save on
utility costs.
