News
from Purchasing
Did you know we have a new
and improved Purchasing website? Take a look at http://www.uhv.edu/fin/
purchasing/home.htm .
Also, thanks to House Bill
1545, Purchasing will be changing the way it does business. Best
value consideration instead of lowest cost will now play a primary
role in larger purchase order awards. Also, the President's Cabinet
will be asked to approve increasing departmental purchasing
limits to allow for more departmental flexibility
and (hopefully) less red tape.
Mail
Services News
With all the news lately about anthrax and
contaminated mail, Susie Motal asked the State Office of Risk
Management to conduct a short training session on proper mail
handling procedures. The one (1) hour class was held on November 12th.
Department secretaries and librarians were invited to attend.
Although there is only a remote possibility, if
you should encounter a suspicious piece of mail, Mail Services ask
that you do the following:
1. Set the envelope down, cover with something or place carefully in
a plastic bag.
|
|
2. Notify Mail Services, Susie Motal or Greg Fanelli.
3. Don’t panic - DO NOT throw or drop envelope or package. If the
mail were contaminated, this would just make the spores airborne.
Anthrax spores are small enough to pass directly through molecular
openings in a paper envelope.
The Post Office advises that you wash your hands
after handling mail using cold water - not hot water.
Questions
and/or comments concerning University mail can be directed to Susie
Motal, X-826 or Mail Room Clerk, X-831.
