Is eCheckSelect in UHV’s future?

Many consumers don't have credit cards, don't want to use credit cards, or just prefer the convenience of electronic checks.  With eCheckSelect,  a consumer's (student’s)  checking account is debited electronically.  There's no paperwork, no hassles and reduced risk of fraud and chargebacks.

Mail Services GOP Guide Updated

Business Services is in the process of updating  the  Mail Services General Office  Procedures (GOP) Guide.  As part of the update,  Business Services will create an online site  consolidating the various postal resources, with links to policies, procedures, bulk mail, forms, mail tracking and other useful sites...all in one location.  The site should be up and running by the end of February.

A Bottom-Line Check

As the mid-point for FY 05 arrives, managers need to review cost centers for budget balances available for the remainder of this fiscal year.  The percent spent to date of the allotted funds and the remaining funds available for FY 05 are key indicators.  A comparison to FY 04 expenditures is often helpful.  This will alert you to any unexpected changes and allow you to anticipate any adjustments or transfers for the remainder of this fiscal year.  Please check with the Budget Office if you need assistance.

2005 HUB Goals are Everybody's Business!!

UHV is actively seeking opportunities for Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) firms to provide the goods and services needed to support  our mission and operations.     Our institutional goal is to purchase 25% of commodity purchases and 16% of service related purchases from women and minority owned businesses.

As a department or school, 25% of commodities and 16% of services purchased by voucher or ProCard need to be procured from HUB businesses.  Our purchasing staff (Lydia, X823 and June X821) will be happy to assist you in obtaining alternate HUB sources.  You don't have to pay more to purchase from HUBS...there are many businesses offering excellent services and pricing to the state...you just have to take the time to locate a source and  purchase from them.  UHV did not meet its state HUB goals for 2004 and consequently, we may have to explain why we didn't meet our goals to our state legislators.

UH Website May Provide Discounts

UH has a web page where you can check on pricing from several different vendors for potential discounts from those companies. The best prices are not always shown there since some of them have daily specials that won't necessarily show up on that site.  As an example, with Dell, you can use this site to check on prices and work through configuration decisions, then call them for the daily specials or deals that might be available at that time.  UH's web site for these vendors is http://www.uh.edu/purchasing/.  You may be asked to set up an account or set a profile, but just follow the instructions.
