Each September, there are a lot of new cost centers.  If the cost center that you normally charge monthly postal expenses to is changing after August 31st,   please e-mail Larry Steen in Mail Services with the new cost center info.  Larry's E-mail is   steenl@uhv.edu.

Purchasing Tidbits

Delegated Departmental Purchasing Limits Are Increasing
At their August 11th meeting, Cabinet approved increasing departmental purchasing limits from $1000 to $2000 per transaction.  This change which also raises ProCard limits to $2,000, is  effective September  1, 2004.

Even though the delegated limits have been increased there will still be certain purchases that will be required to be processed through Purchasing.  Such items include software, printing and controlled property items costing more than $500 such as cameras, printers and computers.

Are You Making Good Faith Efforts with HUBS??
As the new fiscal year rolls around, there will be continued emphasis on departmental  efforts to purchase from Historically Underutilized Businesses .   Our goal, and your  departmental  goal, will be to try to spend 18% of your delegated purchases  with  HUBS.  Chancellor Gogue and the UH System, and the State Legislature are very interested in HUB participation efforts at the campus level  and Purchasing will be glad to help you.
Purchasing/ProCard Training
Our Purchasing and ProCard staff will be coordinating and scheduling short refresher training sessions on various topics beginning in September.   If you have any Purchasing or ProCard topics or issues that you are unclear of, or if you have any suggestions on how departments might be able to improve upon HUB participation, we would like to hear them.    Call Susie Motal at ext. 826.

New Training Sessions on Tap for Fall
Some of you asked if we would offer some new safety related training sessions.  Well, for the first time this fall, we will have Hands on Self-Defense Training and Office Ergonomics Training following some individual workstation ergonomic assessments.  All offerings and full write-ups can be seen on the campus Safety Web Page, FY05 SafetyTraining Schedule.  Some classes are limited.

Bursar's Office

  • Direct Deposit Enhancement UnderwayThe Bursar Office is currently working with the Houston folks to get student direct deposit of refunds set up for the Spring 2005 semester.  A student would have to do a one time election of this option but the benefit would be quicker receipt of refunds right to the bank account.

  • Students Continue to Pay Earlier as a result of the new zap procedures introduced this last Spring.  Now, if a student does not pay by the due date, they are disenrolled and the courses become available to others.
