A
newsletter from the Vice President for Administration and Finance,
Business Services, Finance, Facilities, Computer Services, Human
Resources Departments
Briefly
from the VP
Legislative updates
that effect you personally:
-
As
you know, the State gave a 4% increase or $1,200 per year
raise, whichever is higher, and also provided for a 3%
increase for 2002 if the State Comptroller,
Carol Rylander, is able to certify that the State has enough
surplus to fund the increase. The funding for the 3%
increase will not be known until this time next year.
-
The
State also changed the way longevity is paid. Now $20
is added to your pay after 3 years instead of the multiplier
being 5 years. For example: if you have been
employed by the State for 12 years you currently receive an
additional $40 per month for longevity; however, with the
new multiplier, you will be receiving $80.
-
The
push to increase the annual leave rate per month was not
passed at the close of the session.
-
For
those who are in Teacher Retirement System (TRS), the
retirement rate which is used to figure out how much your
annual retirement will be was increased from 2.2% to
2.3%. What this means is that the number of years you
have with the State is multiplied by 2.3% to come up with
the overall percentage which is multiplied by your highest
three paid years. For example if you have 20 years of
service, you would multiple 20 by 2.3%

to
get 46% which is then multiplied by your highest three year average
which, for example, is $25,000. Your annual retirement would
be computed to be $11,500.
