SUBJECT: SMOKING POLICY

POLICY

In promoting a safe and healthy education and work environment for its employees, students and visitors, smoking is not permitted in any university owned, leased or controlled facility or within twelve (12) feet of  any entrance.  Smoking is not permitted in owned or leased vehicles, in vehicles rented under the University of Houston name or in any type of campus utility vehicle.

In addition to the smoking restrictions stated above, which apply to facilities at all locations, is the University’s intent to also comply with any site specific non-smoking ordinances.

This policy applies to all faculty, staff, students and visitors of the University of Houston-Victoria, UHS at Sugar Land and UHS at Cinco Ranch, as well as any other off-campus facilities under the control, administrative management or supervision of UHV.   

PROCEDURES

Compliance

The effectiveness of this policy relies in part on the consideration and cooperation of smokers and it is hoped that everyone will comply with its spirit and intent.  Security Officers will assist in compliance as necessary.  Visitors who are not cooperative may be asked to leave the campus.  Repeated violations by employees or students will be referred to the responsible campus or center authority for resolution and/or disciplinary action.
