VOICE - Victoria Online Initial Certification for Educators
VOICE Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or evaluation
of international degree showing the equivalent
- Those seeking Grade 8-12 certification must have 24
semester credit hours for the content area in which they
wish to teach (12 of which must be upper division) with a 2.75 overall GPA.
- GPA of 2.75 in last 60 hours of college work
- Letter of standing for those who previously participated
in an Alternative Certification Program (ACP)
- Student must be in good standing with ACP to be admitted
to VOICE
- Passage of TASP or THEA before registering for first VOICE
class
- Scores must be reported directly from NES or shown on
an official college transcript
- Passing scores:
- Reading - 230
- Writing - 220
- Math - 230
- Those interested in obtaining masters' degrees may skip the THEA and take the GRE.
- Combined scores of 800 or better are required.
- Combined score are calculated by adding the Verbal + Quantitative sections on the general test.
- Completion of Diagnostic tool which will help in preparation
for content TExES before registering for first VOICE class
- Scores must be reported to SEHD before candidate registers for VOICE classes
- Scores will be used as a DIAGNOSTIC tool only.
- Those with scores under 80% will be strongly encouraged to take remedial course work before taking the official TExES content exam.
- VOICE applicants may participate in study sessions
- online (through Breeze),
- in Victoria,
- and at Cinco Ranch
- VOICE applicants may take UHV's practice tests as many times as necessary (by appointment) in Victoria and at Cinco Ranch
- Maintenance of 2.75 GPA in VOICE classes throughout enrollment in the program
