online teacher certification programs

Welcome to UHV’s School of Education and Human Development!

John C. Stansell, Professor and Dean As we look forward to 2008, we are excited about achieving national accreditation. Our Counseling program’s accreditation visit by the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) will occur during 2008, and our teacher and administrator education program faculties are preparing for accreditation by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC), with an accreditation visit planned for 2010. Only 10 Texas institutions hold CACREP accreditation, and only 14 Texas institutions’ teacher and administrator preparation programs are nationally accredited. Meeting the rigorous standards of these national accreditation bodies gives further assurance to our students, their families, and their future employers that our programs are of the highest quality.

We are also inspired by the professional achievements of our graduates. This fall, three of our alumni were selected as Teacher of the Year at their schools, and one was selected as Administrator of the Year by her school district. Graduates of our Counseling program who now seek doctoral degrees are quite successful in gaining admission to prestigious programs, and school districts continue to recruit our teachers and administrators and express a high level of satisfaction with their performance.

We continue to focus, as well, on our partnerships with school districts and community colleges. Whether our work involves recruiting a cohort of students who will help meet a school district’s needs, designing a set of courses for community college faculty, offering a successful two-day Math Camp for elementary school students, or developing new programs to address emerging priorities, we are continuing to realize our vision of being the institution our partners look to for assistance as they strive for excellence.

We know that 2008 will bring us new challenges and opportunities, and we welcome your thoughts about how we might serve our large and diverse region. Let us hear from you!

Sincerely,

John C. Stansell
Professor and Dean
