Admission Requirements

Prerequisites for Student Teaching

1.	General Requirements
	a.	Admission to the teacher certification program.
		i.	Criminal History Records Check
	b.	The completion of a minimum of 45 clock hours of scheduled and assigned observation/practicum in a public school.
	c.	After admission to teacher education and before applying for student teaching, a degree plan must be on file.
	d.	Each person desiring to register for student teaching is required to furnish the Teacher Education Records Office before the time of registration a copy of a certificate signed by a person licensed to practice medicine in the state of Texas which reveals that the student has been examined and is free from the disease of tuberculosis.
		i.	The examination is to be conducted no more than 120 days before the person enters a public school to do student teaching.
	e.	Grades in all professional development courses must be ?C? or better.
	f.	Completion of the required 9 semester hours of English with an average grade of 2.5.
2.	Requirements for Specific areas
	a.	Early School Education (EC- Grade 4)
	b.	Middle School Education (Grades 4-8)
	c.	Secondary Education (Grades 8-12)

Application for Student Teaching

All applications for student teaching regardless of area must be returned to the Teacher Education Records Office, 3007 N. Ben Wilson, Victoria, TX 77901, by March 1 for placement during subsequent fall semester and by September 15 for the subsequent spring semester.
