Exemptions from Student Teaching

Access to Success Students:

By program design, you are exempted from performing any student teaching field experiences since you have equivocal teaching experiences in the field as a Para-professional or Permanent Substitute Teacher for a specific length of time (Refer to the Access to Success Program found elsewhere on the School of Education Web Pages).  However, you must still meet the total hour requirements of your degree plan.

  • You must replace the 6 hours of the student teaching field experience with 6 elective hours as suggested by your advisor.
  • You must register for the 3 hour Student Teaching Professional Seminar course (ESE 4707, MSE 4307 or SED 4308) and attend that course as assigned by the Director of Field Based Experiences.

Exemptions from Student Teaching (Non-Access to Success Students)

By policy adopted by the UHV School of Education, you may apply to be exempt from the student teaching field experience if you meet the same work experience requirements as any Para-professionals or Permanent Substitute Teacher enrolled in the Access to Success Program but are unable to participate in that program because of that program’s financial requirements.

However, you must still meet the total hour requirements of your degree plan.

  • You must replace the 6 hours of the student teaching field experience with 6 elective hours as suggested by your advisor.
  • You must register for the 3 hour Student Teaching Seminar course (ESE 4307, MSE 4307 or SED 4308) and attend that course as assigned by the Director of Field Based Experiences.
