Educational Diagnostician Certification

For students to obtain an Educational Diagnostician Certification they must

  1. Hold a valid Texas teacher certificate
  2. Have a Master’s Degree
  3. Have taught a minimum of two years in an accredited school
  4. Be admitted to graduate study within the School of Education and Human Development
  5. Complete course work toward the Educational Diagnostician Certification
  6. Pass the TExES # 153

Master's in Education and Diagnostician Certification

Students seeking certification as an Educational Diagnostician who do not have a Master’s degree can obtain the Master’s of Education in Special Education and take nine additional hours beyond the Master’s degree in order to qualify for the Educational Diagnostician Certification. The following course work is required.

*SPE 6345 and SPE 6344 are delivered face-to-face in Victoria and transmitted via ITV (Instructional Television) to the Cinco Ranch and Sugar Land Campuses.

Educational Diagnostician Certification Only

Students who have a Master’s Degree can obtain Educational Diagnostician Certification through the Special Education Department. A Certification Plan is developed for students. Students must contact faculty of the Special Education Department to determine course work. Students must take a minimum of 12 hours through the Special Education Program in order to take the certification exam. The total number of hours required for a Certification Plan will vary on a case by case basis depending on the students’ course work in their Master’s Degree as well as professional experience within the field.
