The mission of the faculty of the Special Education Program of the School of Education and Human Development is to provide knowledge about disabilities and to prepare educators to be ethical, competent, caring decision makers for students with disabilities. The Special Education Program focuses on Federal and State legal definitions, criteria, and procedures to provide appropriate assessment and support for students with disabilities. The courses in the program provide students with skill and knowledge regarding assessment and intervention tailored to individual student needs; appropriate types and uses of technology; and the need to consider cultural variation throughout the process. Graduates are prepared to meet the highest professional standards within the field.
