Dr. Carlson is a Professor of Special Education with 35 years of
experience teaching at UHV. Dr. Carlson has an Ed. D. with emphasis on
education, linguistics and anthropology from the University of
Massachusetts – Amherst. He also holds a PhD in Special Education from
Ohio State University. In 1997 Dr. Carlson founded and ran The PARTNER’S
afterschool project and homework center for elementary age at-risk
children in Victoria. This program has recently moved to Profit High
School and is a tutorial program for at-risk high school and elementary
students. Dr. Carlson’s research interests include studying the school
culture at Profit and the culture of the young people outside the
school. His goal is to develop an analytical approach to diversity so
that schools can bridge gaps between the students' out-of-school and
in-school environments.

Rachel Martinez

Dr. Martinez is an Assistant Professor of Special Education with 12
years of direct experience working with adults and children with
disabilities. She has taught in a Resource classroom and a
Self-contained classroom. She has been a Teacher of the Visually
Impaired, an Orientation and Mobility Specialist, and a Diagnostician.
She has 5 years of teaching experience preparing students in the field
of Special Education at the University of Houston-Victoria. Dr. Martinez
has a Master's Degree and Doctorate in Special Education from Texas Tech
University. Dr. Martinez is interested in conducting research in the
area of Response to Intervention (RtI) and in evaluation/determination
of disabilities.

Andria Young

Dr. Young is an Associate Professor of Special Education with 10 years
of direct experience working with adults and children with disabilities
as well as ten years of experience preparing undergraduate and graduate
students to be Special Education Teachers and Diagnosticians. Dr. Young
has a Master's Degree in Experimental Psychology from the University of
Texas at El Paso and a Doctorate in Educational Psychology and
Individual Differences from the University of Houston. Dr. Young's
interests include applied behavior analysis, and transitions into the
adult world for students with disabilities. |
