REQUIREMENTS

For admission to Teacher Education and Access to Success Program:

NOTE: UHV must have THEA (formerly TASP) scores and official transcripts on file in order to process this application.

  1. Completion of 54 semester hours prior to enrollment to Professional Education Courses.
  2. Passage of the THEA (formerly TASP) test.
  3. GPA of 2.5 in 9 semester hours of lower division English; 6 semester hours must be in composition.
  4. GPA of 2.5 in courses that apply to degree.
  5. GPA of 2.5 in all lower division courses that apply to teacher certification.
  6. Pass a background check* ($1.00 service charge**).
  7. Evidence of the characteristics, behaviors and attitudes appropriate to the teaching profession.
  8. Lower division courses must be completed before admission to Teacher Education.
  9. Have most RECENT completed tax return OR FAFSA form completed.
  10. UHV Scholarship Application completed.
  11. Teacher Aide Exemption Form completed.

* In accordance with Article 6252-13c, Texas Civil Statutes, the Commission of Education may suspend or revoke a teaching certificate, or refuse to issue a teaching certificate for a person who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor for a crime which directly relates to the duties and responsibilities of the teaching profession.

** Please submit this completed and signed form to the Teacher Education Records Office with $1.00 cash, check, or money order made payable to UHV.
