Admission to Student Teaching
STUDENT TEACHING EXEMPTION
Required Eligibility Criteria
According to House Bill Number 1130:
NOTE: This is only available to undergraduate students.
Students seeking to be exempted or waived from student teaching must meet the following criteria:
- The applicant has worked as an instructional aide in a public or accredited* private school similar to their certification level (EC
- 8 and 8-12) for at least one year within the five years preceding the semester the student would normally be scheduled to student teach.
OR
- The applicant has worked as a substitute teacher for 180 days and has taught consistently as the teacher of record for at least two consecutive grading periods in a public or accredited * private school similar to their certification level (EC- 8 and 8-12) within the five years preceding the semester the student would normally be scheduled to student teach.
* Private school accreditation — Any school whose educational program a state department of education or a parochial accrediting agency has evaluated, and whose program has met and is maintaining certain educational standards.
