Since UHV is an upper division university, our teaching candidates begin their studies at junior or community colleges by following the appropriate 2+2 plans. Early Childhood - Grade 4 Generalist and Grade 4 - Grade 8 Generalist candidates at UHV will earn Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies degrees. Grade 8 - Grade 12 candidates will earn bachelors' degrees through the School of Arts & Sciences or School of Business and co-enroll with SEHD to prepare for certification. Counselors at your junior college can help you plan your lower division studies in accordance with their 2+2 plan. Click here to view our transfer agreements.
UHV currently has 2+2 agreements in effect with the following colleges:
When you have completed 30 freshman and sophomore level semester credit hours, you are eligible to co-enroll at UHV. At that time, you can take general university-based courses. You will be assigned a faculty advisor who will help you to plan the rest of your college career. A certification analyst or degree plan counselor will work with your faculty advisor to draw up a degree plan for your signature in your first semester.
When you meet the admission requirements and are admitted to the School of Education & Human Development, you can take what we call the block courses, those specific to the EC-4; Grades 4-8; and Grades 8 - 12 degree plans.
On completion of your bachelor's degree, fingerprinting, and passage of the required TExES tests and the background check, you will be eligible to apply to SBEC for certification.
