Graduate Assistantships

A School of Education & Human Development Graduate Assistant is employed in conjunction with the research of a faculty member in a capacity that enhances the student's career and educational development. Duties vary depending on the type of research project and may include data entry, preparation of reports, clerical work, proctoring exams, library searches, and other relevant assignments.

Graduate assistantships are chosen on a competitive basis. Students apply and are selected by the Student Awards Advisory Committee.

Graduate assistants must be admitted, degree-seeking students who are in good standing. Part-time graduate assistants work approximately 10 hours per week each semester whereas full-time assistants work approximately 20 hours per week each semester. A graduate assistant must be enrolled in a minimum of 3 credit hours each semester.

The term of the appointment is on a semester-by-semester basis. Reappointment of a graduate assistant depends upon (1) departmental needs, (2) satisfactory academic progress, and (3) evaluation of performance by their assigned faculty.
