NPL 4302:

Independent Study
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: 3 s.h. in Nonprofit Leadership and approval of instructor.
May not be repeated for credit.
 

NPL 4305:

Nonprofit Leadership Internship
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: Senior status and completion of 6 s.h. in NPL coursework.
May be repeated for a maximum of six semester hours. Apply theory to practice in a supervised nonprofit setting. (Formerly IDS 4305)
 

NPL 4312:

Public Policy and Quality of Life
Cr. 3. (3-0).
Current public policy and policy development processes relating to quality of life issues (poverty, justice, health care, homelessness, etc.) and provision of social and nonprofit services. (Formerly IDS 4312)

 

NPL 4340:

Principles of Nonprofit Leadership and Management
Cr. 3. (3-0).
A survey of principles guiding the leadership and management of people, programs and organizational development, quality, information systems, fiscal responsibility and risk, mission-based decision making and planning and organizational responsibility. (Formerly IDS 4340)
 

NPL 4360:

Finance, Development and Fund Raising
Cr. 3. (3-0).
Surveys current accounting and budgeting practices, development responsibilities and competencies and fund raising principles critical in creating accountable and sustainable nonprofit corporations and public agencies.
 

NPL 6300:

Topics in Nonprofit Management
Cr. 3. (3-0).
May be repeated with permission of advisor. Selected management topics among which are conflict resolution, developing and managing boards, funds-raising and development, building collaborative partnerships, recruiting and managing volunteers, and managing risk.
 

NPL 6330:

The Leader's Mind
Cr. 3. (3-0).
The study of the research and development of leadership competencies: communication, vision-setting, strategic planning from the bottom-up, guiding change, problem-solving, conflict management, and personal mastery (integrity) which inform accountable and effective leadership.

 

NPL 6340:

Strategy, Information and Finance
Cr. (3-0).
Strategic development and implementation of nonprofit organizations: setting goals, measuring objectives and indicators, benchmarking, establishing activity-based information, budgeting and fund-raising systems, assuring quality and accountability of program performance.

 

NPL 6360:

Nonprofit Service Marketing
Cr. 3. (3-0).
The study of quality customer-based marketing competencies for nonprofits: assessment and analysis of needs, resources, program effectiveness and client satisfaction; development and execution of strategy-based outreach (advertising and public relations) and service delivery (distribution and provision).
 

NPL 6380:

Community-Building
Cr. 3. (3-0).
The research and development of building self-sufficient, sustainable and healthy communities: community research and democratization of information; leadership development, popular education and resident capacity-building; micro-financing and community economic; neighborhood justice and resource development.
