The UHV Center for Nonprofit Leadership embraces an interdisciplinary approach designed to provide a broad-based perspective on nonprofit leadership and community service. The Center and the UHV School of Arts and Sciences offer specialized undergraduate and graduate academic courses.

Nonprofit Leadership programs include:

  • Undergraduate Minor (15 credits required) See School of Arts and Sciences, Academic Minor Requirements.

  • Graduate MAIS Concentrations (36 credits required) See School of Arts and Sciences, Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies degree requirements.

All UHV students who are interested in a career in the nonprofit sector or who want to make a difference through community service are encouraged to pursue a minor or graduate degree in nonprofit leadership. Students interested in any of the programs should consult with the Centerís manager or the nonprofit leadership faculty advisor for application and advising procedures. The program is designed in a flexible manner that allows students from all degreed programs to pursue an undergraduate minor. Students in the Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies can pursue a concentration in nonprofit leadership.

Internships (at least 150 contact hours) may be taken for credit; placement will be with a UHV approved nonprofit agency under the direction of the Center for Nonprofit Leadership.

Community Outreach

A component of the Center for Nonprofit Leadership (CNL) is community outreach. The CNL provides community nonprofit organizations with professional development opportunities through workshops, seminars and continuing education opportunities. The Center also engages nonprofits in monthly networking opportunities. Community nonprofits also can benefit from the Centerís library and grant resources.
