Center for Nonprofit Leadership
American
Humanics Undergraduate Certificate Program
(Effective Fall 2003)
UHV’s Center for Nonprofit Leadership
provides students with an opportunity to receive the National
American Humanics (AH) Certification through academic coursework
and co-curricular activities. The AH certification is the
premier leadership asset desired by nonprofit employers and
community service boards. The AH certification assures future
employees that UHV students have met competency levels that meet
national nonprofit leadership standards. AH is a national
organization that is affiliated with more than 85 universities
and 17 national nonprofit partners. American Humanics mission
is to prepare and certify future nonprofit professionals to work
with
America’s
youth and families.
The
UHV Center for Nonprofit Leadership embraces an
interdisciplinary approach designed to provide a broad-based
perspective to nonprofit leadership and community service. The
UHV American Humanics program offers specialized academic
courses and workshops on topics related to the nonprofit sector
such as fund-raising, volunteerism, human development, and
fiscal management. The certification process also requires
practical, hands-on experience with internships and
co-curricular activities.
All UHV students who are interested in a
career in the nonprofit sector or who want to make a difference
through community service are eligible to join.
Interested students should consult with the program’s director
for application and advising procedures. Students who begin the
AH certification process early in their studies will complete
their bachelor’s degree and receive certification with minimum
extra credit. Postbaccalaureate and master’s students are also
invited to work towards nonprofit leadership certification while
completing their degrees. The program is designed in a flexible
manner that allows students from all degreed programs to pursue
AH certification as a complement to their major coursework.
The AH certification requires both
obtaining a bachelor’s degree in any UHV degree-program and
completion of the following requirements.
