Memberships

UHV Career Services is a member of the following organizations.

National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) is the leading source of information on the employment of the college educated. NACE facilitates the exchange of knowledge and insight among individuals and organizations focused on career development and employment of the college educated. NACE forecasts trends in the job market; tracks legal issues in employment, the job search, and hiring practices; and provides college and employer professionals with benchmarks for their work.

Houston Area Consortium of Career Centers' mission is "to educate, promote and enhance Career Center Services and employment opportunities for students and alumni of member institutions. We shall provide professional development opportunities in career services which include career counseling, placement assistance and employment, and graduate and professional school information. We shall promote professionalism and a spirit of cooperation among career services offices and with employing organizations. As members of this local organization, we shall provide support services to regional and national Career Services Organizations."


Subscriptions

UHV Career Services subscribes to print publications and online services that are available to UHV students and alumni.

Discover Career Planning Program guides students and alumni through information on occupations, work-related values, interests, skills, educational programs, and more. Job Choices is a series of publications by the National Association of Colleges and Employers that informs students about the job market and the latest hiring trends. Three publications are available, including

  • Job Choices: Diversity Edition,
  • Job Choices for Business & Liberal Arts Students, and
  • Job Choices for Science, Engineering, & Technology Students.

The list price for Job Choices is $16.95, but Job Choices magazines are available to UHV Students and Alumni for FREE by contacting Career Services. **While Supplies Last.**

NACElink is a nation-wide job board sponsored by the National Association of Colleges and Employers. Students can post resumes and cover letters onto this site for free. For a nominal fee, employers can post jobs announcements.

Transitions Abroad is a bimonthly magazine of practical information for independent-minded travelers who want to experience the thrills and lifelong rewards of immersion abroad. Each issue covers the alternatives to mass tourism: learning, living, working, studying and volunteering abroad, as well as vacationing with the people of the host country. Copies can be viewed in the Career Services office (room 133, UW).

UH Career Services Job Bank: Currently enrolled UHV students may access the UH job bank free of charge. Alumni may also access free for 1 semester immediately following graduation. After the first semester, payment for services is required. To access, log on to the UH Career Services site and enter your last name with the last 5 digits of your Social Security number in the User Id and Password fields. Ex.: Smith12345

www.h1visajobs.com contains databases of employers that have sponsored international students. This site also contains tips and strategies to help the international student succeed in finding employment. UHV subscribes to two databases: Business: BUSI-H1B and Computer Science: CS-H1B.
