The Giving Tree
During the month of December, the UHV Student Senate sponsored The Giving Tree and encouraged faculty, staff, students, and community members to donate goods to non-profit organizations in the community.
UHV faculty, staff, students, and community members contributed to the “Giving Tree” drive by bringing unwrapped donations to UHV.
Barbara Blevins, CASA volunteer coordinator, said the drive makes the holiday season special for many of the children at CASA, an organization which cares for neglected or abused children.
“The ‘Giving Tree’ UHV puts on each year embodies the real meaning of the holiday spirit, and it really makes a difference for many of the children under our care, “Blevins said. “ It means the world to them.”
“I’m happy the UHV student senate gets the chance to touch the lives of some of our community’s youth by partnering with organizations like CASA and the Crossroads Youth and Family Services,” Delores White, UHV student senate president, said. “Knowing that we, as a community, can put a smile on a child’s face this holiday season is very exciting and rewarding.”
“Each year, our students, staff and faculty have been very generous. I’m absolutely certain our community will show the same kindheartedness this year,” White added.
