UHV to Host Free Training from State Office of Risk Management

The State Office of Risk Management has partnered with the University of Houston-Victoria to bring three days of training to the Golden Crescent. Scheduled for October 31-November 2, the event will feature the most commonly requested SORM classes and will be free to state employees.

The regional training event is newly developed by SORM. In the past, employees of state agencies have had to schedule individual classes and travel to Austin to attend. By developing regional trainings such as the one being offered at UHV, SORM is able to offer classes that are more convenient and that save on travel costs. They are also able to offer a wider variety of classes in a single setting.

“Because of the tremendous cost savings to our office, we are able to offer training for free that may have cost a participant $100 a day in the past,” said Bradley Praise from the SORM office. Praise anticipates attendees driving to Victoria from Corpus Christi and Sugar Land to attend.

Classes for the three-day event will include sessions on topics as diverse as conflict management, ergonomics, defensive driving and stress management. Participants can take one class or several. Each training session is designed to build on the session before it but can be taken individually as well.

A complete training schedule can be found here.

To register, attendees need to send an e-mail here. For more information, contact UHV Safety and Risk Manager Genaro Cortez at (361) 570-4245.
