Members of the Victoria community are invited to join University of Houston-Victoria (UHV) students, alumni, faculty and staff to donate blood for victims of Hurricane Katrina on Monday, September 26, from noon to 3 p.m. A mobile unit from South Texas Blood and Tissue Center will be parked at the university in Lot T off Ben Wilson to facilitate the blood drive.
“Participating in the blood drive is the perfect opportunity for the Victoria area to collaborate and remind the victims of Hurricane Katrina that they remain in our thoughts,” said UHV Alumni Relations Specialist Sarah Simon, who is organizing the event. “We would love to get as many people as possible to make a positive showing for our community.”
Simon added that the more people who RSVP to give blood, the longer the mobile unit will stay. As more people have been evacuated from the Louisiana coast to medical facilities, the need for blood has increased.
Cookies and punch will be provided to all those who donate blood, and the first 20 donors will receive a free UHV t-shirt. For more information about the blood drive, contact Sarah Simon at (361) 570-4363 or RSVP by calling (361) 570-4346.
