Student comes to UHV to become pioneer, video game designer

Juan Andrade, a senior at Sinton High School in Sinton, found a lot of things he liked when he first heard about UHV.

“UHV sent me an e-mail telling me I could be a first,” he said. “That really caught my attention.”

The thought of being a pioneer heading out into the unknown really appealed to him, as did the thought of turning his love of video games into a career.

Andrade wants to earn a degree in computer science with a concentration in digital gaming and simulation. And the program at UHV offered the perfect location.

“I like the fact that UHV is not too far from home, but it’s far enough that I can spread my wings and fly,” Andrade said. His other option for the program would have sent him all the way to Waco, which is far from family.

Outside of class, Andrade is a member of his school’s debate team.
