The Pan American Golf Association of Victoria recently endowed $10,000 to fund a golf scholarship at the University of Houston-Victoria.

“This gracious donation will help us recruit top-notch students to our new golf program,” UHV Athletics Director Ashley Walyuchow said. “The endowment guarantees that the Pan American Golf Association of Victoria Scholarship will be awarded each year going forward.”

The endowment will provide an annual $500 scholarship to a full-time undergraduate student who is a member of the UHV Jaguars men’s or women’s golf teams and exhibits a high level of community service and involvement. The golf teams will make their debut in the fall.

“We want to encourage a whole new generation to experience the lifelong joys that the game of golf brings,” said Raymond Saenz, president of the Pan American Golf Association of Victoria.

PAGA is a nonprofit organization created to promote the game of golf and encourage community spirit by providing scholarships for area students pursuing higher education. The organization is one of 44 chapters in 10 states with a membership of more than 2,600 people. The Victoria PAGA has been operating for more than 40 years.

“It’s generous community support like this that makes it possible for us to offer opportunities like our new golf and soccer programs to students while they are pursuing their degrees,” UHV President Tim Hudson said. “I want to personally thank all the members of the PAGA of Victoria for their contribution to the future of golf in Victoria and the future of UHV.”
