Students at the University of Houston-Victoria in need of additional funding to complete their education may have another scholarship opportunity, thanks to a recent $3,000 donation made to UHV by the South Texas Higher Education Foundation.
At a May ceremony attended by several colleges and universities, Rose Delgado, secretary for STHEF, presented a check to UHV Development Officer Ashley Walyuchow. STHEF has a history of giving to the university, awarding a total of $16,000 since 2003.
Established in 2000, STHEF is a nonprofit corporation that seeks to provide higher education assistance to needy students. The foundation distributes funds to other nonprofit organizations as well as college and university financial aid offices, which in turn allocate these funds to students.
“These funds are integral to helping students earn their degree,” said Walyuchow. “Without funding that fills in gaps, some of our students would not be able to complete their education on time or at all.”
STHEF gifts are intended for students who—after they have exhausted their scholarships, work study, state and federal grants and loans, and family contributions—still need money to pay for their college expenses.
Based in Edinburg, Texas, STHEF has a commitment to help students in South Texas, including those in Austin, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, and the Golden Crescent. For more information on the foundation, visit www.costep.org/sthef.
