Local softball players can learn the finer points of the game from All-American college athletes at the 2009 University of Houston-Victoria Jaguars Fall Softball Clinic on Sept. 12.

“This is a great chance for young women to work with some of the top college athletes in the country,” said Keri Lambeth, UHV head softball coach.

The clinic will be at the St. Joseph-O’Connor Athletic Complex, 3006 N. Cameron St., and will be taught by several members of the 2009 team that won the Association of Independent Institutions Championship and competed in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics national tournament series in Decatur, Ga.

Among those teaching at the clinic will be Kristen Lindley and Tasha Rotramel, both of whom were named All-Americans in 2009. Lindley also was named A.I.I. Player of the Year, while Rotramel was named A.I.I. Pitcher of the Year and a NAIA 2009 All-Star Pitcher.

From 9 a.m. to noon, attendees will learn how to improve general skills like hitting, throwing, catching, fielding and base running.

From 1 to 3 p.m., the pitching clinic will teach players the mechanics of the rise, drop, screw, curve, change and fast ball.

From noon to 1 p.m., clinic attendees can bring a sack lunch and interact one-on-one with the Jaguars players.

“Our players and alumni are looking forward to sharing some of their insights and experiences with these up-and-coming student athletes,” Lambeth said.

The fee is $50 for either the morning or afternoon session, or $100 for both. Payment may be made by cash or check. To register by the Sept. 8 deadline, call Lambeth at 361-570-4328. Parents must sign a release form for students to be able to attend.
