UHV graduate new principal of Columbus elementary school

Sally Kallina

The new principal of Columbus Elementary School in Columbus is a proud graduate of the University of Houston-Victoria.

Sally Kallina earned her master’s degree in administration and supervision in 2002 from the UHV School of Education & Human Development. Prior to that, she also took the extra classes she needed to get her teaching certification at UHV.

Her teaching career includes stints as a classroom teacher in Nada and El Campo and service as an assistant principal and a principal in the Wharton school district.

“I love being with the kids,” Kallina said. “As a principal, I get to be with all of them.”

Kallina said her UHV education prepared her well for all the different levels of her teaching career.

“UHV does a good job with teacher preparation,” Kallina said. “I tell all the young people who go there that they will be ready. It will be a good experience for them.”

The programs in the School of Education & Human Development stressed confidence in public speaking and leadership, which Kallina said helped prepare her for her current position.

“Any enterprise is judged by the quality of the product it produces,” said Mary Natividad, interim dean of the School of Education & Human Development. “Teachers and administrators, like Ms. Kallina, reflect very well on us.”

The UHV School of Education & Human Development offers courses face to face in Sugar Land and Victoria, and many degrees entirely online. For more information, visit www.uhv.edu/edu or call senior recruitment coordinator Sandy Hybner at 361-570-4252.
