KATY - The University of Houston-Victoria announced today the winners of the Spring 2009 Master of Business Administration Conference.
This semester, 55 students in the capstone course of the MBA program analyzed national retailer PetSmart. Teams brought to bear everything they had learned during the course of their studies to find challenges and opportunities faced by the retailer and come up with the best strategies to address them.
On May 9, the teams presented their findings and were judged by a panel of faculty members and alumni on criteria including subject knowledge, the quality of their speaking skills, teamwork, and the quality and use of visual aids. Presentations were made in Katy at the University of Houston System at Cinco Ranch, where UHV offers business courses.
Winning top honors were Marcus Northrup of Sugar Land, Yuri Curtis of Houston, Asif Kaba of Stafford, and Francisco Izaguirre of Dickinson. The winning team members will receive certificates, and their names will appear on a plaque in the School of Business Administration office in Victoria.
The second-place team was made up of Demetri Douglas, Lindsay Medina and Mandian Wei. The third-place team included Darin Durand, Denise Cortes, Heidi Bragg and Dustin Smith.
“I was very proud of all the hard work our students did this semester,” Wang said. “Our students showed us that they are ready for the real business world and proved once more that our programs are producing individuals prepared to be leaders in industry and commerce.”
Started in 2003, the conference has become a tradition each fall and spring at the business school.
