Two Calhoun High School students won the top prizes and scholarships Thursday at the University of Houston-Victoria/The Victoria College Math and Computer Science Awareness Day contests.

Students at the event took written math and computer science tests that were scored in teams and individually.

The approximately 50 contestants, along with other students who participated in the event, attended seminars with topics including computer graphics and robot building. They also had a pizza party and listened to guest speaker Sarah McKenna, chief meteorologist at local television station KAVU. This year’s theme was “Mathematics and Climate.”

The event was sponsored by UHV, VC and Alcoa Foundation.
