The University of Houston-Victoria earned 10 prestigious ADDY awards for advertising creative excellence for projects ranging from a logo for Hispanic Heritage Month to this semester’s student registration campaign.
“I am extremely proud of the Marketing Department’s hard work during the past year in developing an exceptional level of creative messages,” UHV Marketing Director John Ellis said. “UHV received only one award in the competition last year, so I’m thrilled that we received so much recognition this year.”
UHV won one gold, four silver and five bronze ADDY awards Thursday at the American Advertising Federation-Victoria ADDY Awards Gala at the Colony Creek Country Club.
The gold award went to UHV for a logo designed for Hispanic Heritage Month, which the university helps organize each year. The winning entry now moves on to the Region 10 competition, which includes district winners from Arkansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Texas. Winners of the regional competition advance to the national competition.
The following UHV projects received silver ADDY awards:
- Hispanic Heritage Month Web site
- 2007-2008 Annual Report Web site
- Spring 2009 student registration follow-up campaign
- Mastering Our Future (presentation about a scholarship program for teachers)
UHV also received five bronze ADDY awards for the following projects:
- UHV School of Nursing logo ·Spring 2009 student registration campaign
- 2007-2008 Annual Report mail-out campaign
- “Be a Superhero!” (public service ad for the Victoria Adult Literacy Council, which UHV sponsors)
- New UHV logo
Members of the UHV Marketing Department worked together on the projects that won awards. The team includes Ellis, creative services manager Steven Nickel, communications manager Paula Cobler, graphic designer Melody Vecera, communications specialist Thomas Doyle, administrative secretary Jeanelle Gillit and student worker Ashley Falco.
Most members of the department have worked at UHV 14 months or less, said Ellis, who joined the university in November of 2007.
“I can’t wait to see what we can accomplish at next year’s awards as our team evolves,” he said.
The ADDY Awards is a three-tiered national competition conducted annually by the American Advertising Federation. The awards are the advertising industry’s largest and most representative competition for creative excellence.
