On Monday, March 20, from noon to 1:30 p.m., members of the community will be able to attend a presentation students at the University of Houston-Victoria have enjoyed for more than 10 years. Dr. Dennis Riedesel, assistant professor in the School of Education and Human Development, will speak as Texas Revolution hero Isaac Hamilton.
A “living history” event, the talk will feature Riedesel in costume speaking from Hamilton’s perspective as he recounts the Battle of Coleto and Goliad Massacre of 1836. Hamilton’s story of escape highlights the harsh conditions faced by those who fought for Texas independence.
“Dr. Riedesel stays in character for the entire talk, which is one of the reasons students find his presentation so memorable,” said Kori Wilson, professional development coordinator at UHV. “We are pleased to invite members of the community to share in this experience.”
A historical re-enactor for more than 25 years, Riedesel joined the UHV faculty in 1996. He holds a doctorate in education from the University of Houston.
The presentation is being cosponsored by the UHV Office of Professional Development and the Victoria Area Institute of Lifetime Learning. As part of the event, a traditional Texas barbecue lunch will be served prior to Riedesel’s presentation. Admission is $10 and must be paid in advance.
