Two University of Houston-Victoria instructors are offering a continuing education course to educate social workers, licensed professional counselors and psychologists about ethical standards.
“Ethical Standards for the Counselor in the Professional Setting” will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 31 in the Multi-Purpose Room of the UHV University Center, 3007 N. Ben Wilson St. Mary Mayorga, an assistant professor of education/counseling, and Ann Wardle, an adjunct instructor in the UHV School of Education & Human Development, will lead the course.
The cost is $95, and those who attend can earn 0.3 continuing education credits.
Topics will include:
- Moral principles that are the basis for the ethical codes for helping professionals.
- Ethical codes of organizations such as the American Counseling Association, the Texas Counseling Association and the American Psychological Association.
- Ethical and legal issues pertaining to confidentiality and privileged communication, informed consent, documentation and ethical dilemmas.
- The difference between ethical and legal responsibilities.
