University of Houston-Victoria senior Karalyn Jones has safely returned from her adventures in Africa.
The 22-year-old education major spent two months, and a little extra time, in Mbale, Uganda, doing relief work with Operations Crossroads Africa and spending time with local children.
"It's a bittersweet feeling to be back," Jones said. "I've never been happier to be an American than when I stepped off the plane at JFK Airport in New York, but even so, I miss the simplicity and purity of life in Uganda."
Jones returned to Victoria on Aug. 20 after six days of constant travel, including several unplanned delays.
"The No. 1 rule for Africa is that nothing is as you expect it to be," Jones said. "You have to have a high tolerance for the unexpected, but this is what makes Africa what it is. It's that untamed land that still captivates our imaginations."
