On Tuesday, January 31, the University of Houston-Victoria Letting Education Achieve Dreams initiative will host a Girls Academy Reunion from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Students in their junior year of high school who participated in Girls Academy as eighth-graders have been invited to attend.
This year’s reunion will include welcoming notes from Dr. Dee Dee Hudson, wife of UHV President Tim Hudson. Featured guest speaker Shawna Currie of KAVU-TV will later give the keynote address during dinner.
As with Girls Academy, reunion attendees will participate in small group discussions centered on their personal goals and education plans past high school. They will also answer questions designed to assess the impact Girls Academy has had on their decision making. Prominent community leaders will join the students for dinner to provide encouragement.
This is the fourth reunion since LEAD began the Girls Academy program in 1998. Both the academy and the reunion are funded through a grant from the Alcoa Foundation. For more information, contact LEAD program coordinator Ersilia Garcia at (361) 570-4144.
