UHV to hold food and clothing drive

The University of Houston-Victoria School of Business Administration is giving back to local communities next week with a food and clothing drive at campus locations in Victoria, Sugar Land and Katy.

The drive is part of TeamMBA Week, one of the activities of TeamMBA, a global initiative of the Graduate Management and Admission Council to encourage social responsibility and community engagement by graduate business schools and their students.

"We just thought it was a good way to get involved and give back," said Holly Verhasselt, constituent relations coordinator for the UHV School of Business Administration. "We're hoping we'll have a good response so that our participation in TeamMBA Week can become an annual event."

Community members and UHV students, faculty and staff are asked to drop off gently used clothing and nonperishable food items starting Monday to the UHV campus in Victoria or the teaching centers in Sugar Land or Katy. Locations where donations may be dropped off are:

  • University of Houston-Victoria – School of Business Administration offices, Room 213, University West building, 3007 N. Ben Wilson St.
  • University of Houston System-Sugar Land – rotunda, 14000 University Blvd.
  • University of Houston System-Cinco Ranch – atrium, 4242 S. Mason Road in Katy

All food and clothing collected will go to local charities in Victoria, Sugar Land and Katy. The charities have yet to be selected, Verhasselt said.

In addition to UHV, other schools participating in the inaugural TeamMBA week include the University of Virginia, Ohio State University and George Washington University. The universities are coordinating different projects such as a bike ride to support cancer research, a home build through Habitat for Humanity and a group walk to raise money for Alzheimer's disease research.

The Graduate Management and Admission Council is an international nonprofit association of business schools and the sponsor of the Graduate Management Admission Test.
