Austin, Texas - The UHV Jaguars softball team dropped two tough games against NCAA division 2 opponent St. Edward’s University.
In game one, UHV twice held 1 run leads but couldn’t hold on as the Hilltoppers won 6-2. Kristen Lindley’s RBI single scored Amber Scott to give the Jaguars a 1-0 lead after half an inning. The Hilltoppers answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the first.
The Jaguars regained the lead in the second thanks to Jess Salas’ single that scored Brittany Faas. The lead was short lived as St. Edward’s scored 4 runs off 6 hits and an error in the bottom of the third. The Hilltoppers added another run in the fifth inning.
Game two was a classic pitcher’s duel. Hilltoppers freshman pitcher Diana Cezeaux pitched her first career no-hitter to lead the Hilltoppers to a 1-0 win. Jaguars’ pitcher Lauren Garza tossed a 4 hitter and struck out 4 in taking the loss.
The Jaguars will face their first NAIA competition this weekend as they travel to Northwood University in Cedar Hill, Texas for a doubleheader on Friday. Saturday they will face Texas College in Tyler, Texas.
