Local nonprofit organizations will get a holiday boost in donations this year from University of Houston-Victoria students, faculty and staff as they participate in the second annual “Giving Tree.” The donation drive will begin Thursday, December 1, at 10 a.m. with a tree trimming event in the University Center foyer.
Community members can contribute to the Giving Tree drive by bringing donations to UHV from December 1-16 and leaving them under the tree. Clothing and linens should be new or gently used, and all items should be unwrapped.
Five local nonprofit organizations will benefit from the donation drive: Perpetual Help Home, Adopt-a-Pet, Victoria Food Bank, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and Mid-Coast Family Services. Items sought range from canned goods, pet food and toiletries to Christmas gifts for children and holiday meal items. A complete wish list of goods is available online at www.uhv.edu and on flyers posted on the UHV campus.
“The donations left under the Giving Tree last year really showed how much our students, faculty and staff care about this community,” said UHV Special Events Coordinator Nancy Welch. “We’re sure we’ll see the same generosity this year.”
The Giving Tree is sponsored by the UHV Student Senate. For more information, contact Student Senate President Robin Cadle at (361) 570-4120 or Nancy Welch at (361) 570-4351.
