Two University of Houston-Victoria entries for advertising creative excellence in the American Advertising Federation’s ADDY Awards competition recently advanced and then won awards at the district level, which encompasses a four-state region.
The Jaguar Journey 2010-2011 annual report website (www.UHVAnnualReport.com) received a silver ADDY in the online annual report category, and the Jaguar Journey new student orientation logo won a bronze ADDY in the elements of advertising logo category.
The awards were presented earlier this month at the AAF District 10 Convention in Shreveport, La.
Members of the UHV Marketing Department who worked on the annual report website are Paula Cobler, interim director of marketing and communications; Melody Vecera, creative services manager; Amberley Gutierrez and Cari Laza, graphic designers; Ken Cooke, former communications specialist; Harry Bashaw, former Internet technician; and Della Rampley, administrative secretary. Laza designed the new student orientation logo.
“I am very proud of the entire Marketing Department,” Cobler said. “District 10 of the American Advertising Federation covers clubs in Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas, so it is not easy to win at that level.”
UHV’s online annual report entry will now advance to the third tier of the competition – the National ADDY Awards. More than 1,500 national finalists will compete. National winners will be presented during the AAF National Conference June 5 in Austin.
“It is exciting to receive recognition from our peers in the industry for such hard work,” Vecera said. “We are happy to bring positive recognition to the university and look forward to producing even stronger work to promote UHV in the future.”
The ADDYS are the largest creative competition in the country with more than 40,000 local entries competing in 200 markets.
UHV won 13 ADDY awards at the local level in February. The awards included a Best of Interactive Award and two Special Judges Awards. Five of the awards advanced to the district competition.
