UHV Student Earns Leadership Award

During the recent National Conference on Student Leadership, Kathy Foil of the University of Houston-Victoria earned Certified Student Leader credentials. Foil was one of 200 students attending the conference and earned the certification by scoring high on an examination of leadership skills.

Candidates who took the exam were tested on running effective meetings, resolving conflicts, creating an inclusive and diverse environment, and launching successful publicity and promotional campaigns.

“It is gratifying to see such a hard-working student receive the recognition she deserves. Today’s student leader is tomorrow’s workplace leader,” said UHV President Tim Hudson. “We are committed at UHV to providing opportunities such as this conference, where our students have the chance to exercise and develop such skills.”

Foil is currently studying communications in the UHV School of Arts and Sciences and expects to complete her degree in May 2007. She is an active member of Gamma Beta Phi and was among eight UHV students to travel to Florida in November to participate in the leadership conference.

Since 1978, NCSL has helped student leaders enhance their leadership and organizational management skills so they can have a positive impact on their campus. This is the second year for UHV to send students to the conference.
