UHV SBDC to host capital, financing seminar on Wednesday

The University of Houston-Victoria Small Business Development Center will host a free “Access to Capital and Alternative Financing” seminar from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the UHV SBDC office, 3402 N. Ben Wilson St.

Annie Hudspeth

The seminar will be led by Annie Hudspeth, lender relations specialist for the U.S. Small Business Administration’s San Antonio District Office.

Hudspeth and a speaker from an alternative financing company will inform owners of start-ups and existing businesses about how to gain access to capital for their needs to drive economic recovery and retain jobs.

“We invite business owners to learn about SBA guaranty loan programs and services and see how it works,” Hudspeth said. “We also will look at other alternative funding sources for small businesses.”

Hudspeth’s career with the federal Small Business Administration has seen her work as a loan officer in processing, servicing and liquidation of SBA loans. She currently is assigned to the lender relations division, where she assists lenders with eligibility, servicing and loan liquidation questions as well as marketing SBA products and services to the public in the 55-county district.

Hudspeth is the Austin and San Antonio area representative for the SBA Women’s Business Centers, a network of nearly 100 educational centers designed to help women start and grow businesses. Hudspeth also serves as the SBA San Antonio District Office’s international trade liaison and brand manager.

“A lack of planning and access to financial capital are the two biggest reasons for small business failures,” UHV SBDC Interim Director Joe Humphreys said. “Seminars like this can clear up some of the confusion around the important financial aspect of running a business.”

The program is open to the public, but attendees must RSVP to reserve a seat. Contact Jean Smith, UHV SBDC training coordinator, at 361-575-4485 or sbdc@uhv.edu.
